Gay Pride SF Roundup, from a Straight Couple

Joan and I went to SF last weekend to take part in the Pride Weekend.  Needless to say it was terrific.  We went to the Castro on Sat night and saw the Dyke March and cheered our heads off.  It was especially neat to be there with two friends form Placer County who have been together for 24 years and who were married once before but will do it over again in a few weeks,  and they “kept us safe” among the other Lesbians in the area that evening (LOL).  We didn’t get into Pink Saturday, it was wall to wall people but we spoke with and met hundreds of gay, lesbian, bi, trans people and had just an incredible evening.

The March on Sunday was jammed. There were more people there this year than last and the overwhelming theme was marriage.  There was even a couple that got married on a float as it came down Market Street.  The PFLAG group was about 150 big and we walked with out old chapter, and some new friends, from Visalia, who joined us on that day.  I think we all found it very emotional and very exciting.

I called my Son, Reade, from the Parade Route and told him the last thing he wanted to hear:  someone had given me an “Im a PFLAG Dad” button- which I wore.  And, I was also give a great button that says “Straight Not Narrow.”  Got to love it.  The floats were terrific, the atmosphere pure joy and I took over 170 photos.

The next Tulare Kings Counties PFLAG meeting is July 20th, 2pm at the COS room #1 at the Admin building.  I should have a bunch of the pics with me and lots of stories to share.  Come on down and join us.  Its going to be the first REAL PFLAG meeting and its going to be great.
