From HuffPo.
So now we have it: good grades and responsible fatherhood are “white” and speaking foreign languages is suspiciously “European.” What an amazing moment of un-looked for national reconciliation! Mitt Romney and Jesse Jackson agree on something at last: Senator Obama is downright un-American.
Full article here.
Money quote:
The best thing going for Obama is that he is smarter than we-the-dumb-on-purpose-people. We’ve had eight years of a president as stupid as we are. Let’s try something new.
You’ll need to read the whole thing to place that in context.

I just realized that I have no idea whether or not Mark Morford’s writing appears in the print edition of the SF Chronicle. If it doesn’t, that’s quite sad for the 8 or 9 people who don’t have access to the Internets.
It is the end of the nutball Christian right. Here is your proof. To go.
By Mark Morford, SF Gate Columnist
Friday, July 11, 2008Hey, remember the angry evangelicals? The quivering clan of militant Christoholics who propelled Bush into office and seized the national narrative for a few terrifying moments about five years back, ran deep into the woods with it and rubbed it all over their naughty bits in a frenzy of fear and confusion and lust for all things homophobic and saccharine and spiritually denigrating?
Dying. Nearly dead. Gasping their last. Very soon to be a footnote, a caricature, a gag, a punch line, blasted to the dustbin of history like dried housefly limbs after a sneeze. You should know this now.
I’ll observe, borrowing from Mark Twain, that reports of this movement’s death are greatly exaggerated. At least they have been in the past. Mr. Morford makes and supports the very interesting assertion that capitalism itself may be defusing the wingnuts’ “message”. Go read it. It’s hilarious.

Gas prices are not high, the dollar is not weak, and the Dow is not tanking. We’re all just delusional whiners.

From HuffPo:
There are billions and billions of reasons to hate McDonald’s. They took the McRib away, for one, and that burns. (Sometimes I almost wish I’d never loved it at all.) There’s at least one good reason to like McDonald’s: They’re being boycotted by the American Family Association.
What did McDonald’s do to cross the AFA, its president, Donald Wildmon, and — by extension — Jesus (R-Nz.)? They donated $20,000 to the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. McDonald’s’ revenue runs about five billion dollars a quarter, so you can see their profound commitment to destroying the family through sodomy.
Full article here, and it’s quite funny! Mr. Kelly quotes a tiny (but very representative) sample of the lunatic comments on the issue. Click through to the AFA web site to read them all. Have a barf bag handy.

My job gives me the frequent opportunity to be witness, if only at a distance, to some of the really dumb things people do. Tonight was no exception.
I took a 9-1-1 call Saturday night about someone brandishing a handgun at the caller, while he was at a party. Pretty cut and dried, right? Fun times, good friends, and then some jerk with a gun goes and ruins things. Well, things are seldom as they seem, and almost never like they try to tell you at first.

From the San Jose Mercury News:
By Mike Swift
Mercury News
Article Launched: 07/12/2008 01:30:47 AM PDTTens of thousands of same-sex couples are expected to marry legally in California by 2010, if a constitutional ban on gay marriage doesn’t pass at the polls in November.
But no matter what the voters decide, the official government count of the number of married same-sex couples in California is not in doubt. It will be zero.
The U.S. Census Bureau, reacting to the federal Defense of Marriage Act and other mandates, plans to edit the 2010 census responses of same-sex couples who marry legally in California, Massachusetts or any other state. They will be reported as “unmarried partners,” rather than married spouses, in census tabulations - a policy that will likely draw the ire of gay rights groups.
Full article here. Read it if the issue interests you. It’s pretty well done. There is one precious gem that you need to see whether or not you read the whole thing. It’s from the mouth of a spokesfool for ProtectMarriage.com.
“One of our campaign cornerstones will be the fact that if the initiative doesn’t pass that public schools will be forced to teach the difference between gay marriage and traditional marriage,” said Jennifer Kerns.
In my vast experience dealing with outrageous stupidity, that tops anything I’ve ever seen or heard.
